Transforming Diagnostics Across Africa.
The Pathology Network (TPN) builds and deploys digital diagnostic systems that connect hospitals, doctors, laboratories and pathologists — delivering life-saving results faster, reliably and at scale.
Turning Martha’s Tragedy Into Africa’s Diagnostic Revolution
How Martha’s Tragedy Inspired Africa’s Diagnostic Revolution
A tragedy that should never have happened became the catalyst for a continent-wide diagnostic revolution.
In 2015, Martha, a 45-year-old farmer from rural Kenya, arrived at Dr Joshua Kibera’s clinic with an ulcerated lump the size of a tennis ball in her breast.
It was already stage 4 cancer.
Yet Martha had done everything right.
A year earlier, when the lump was small, she had sought medical help.
A biopsy was taken — which she believed was treatment — and her sample was sent 300 km away to Nairobi.
The results came back after a month.
No one called her.
No one followed up.
By the time she returned, the disease had spread beyond cure.
Martha’s needless suffering exposed a deeper problem:
not a lack of skill or compassion, but a broken system of coordination.
Her story became the turning point — the moment that inspired the creation of The Pathology Network (TPN), built to ensure that no patient is ever lost in the system again.

“Martha had sought care early, followed advice, and reached a hospital with diagnostic capacity. Yet inefficiencies and miscommunication turned a treatable condition into a palliative case. The system had failed her.” — Dr Joshua Kibera
The Diagnostic Divide
Fewer than 3,000 pathologists serve 1.3 billion people in Africa.
That’s 1 pathologist per 1 million Africans vs 1 per 25,000 in UK/US.
More than 10% of deaths worldwide are caused by diagnostic errors.
Poor data, slow logistics and under-resourced labs keep millions untreated.
At TPN we believe every patient deserves reliable diagnostics.

Diagnostic Delays and Inefficiencies Cost Lives
In many African locations, patients can wait days, even weeks, for their results.
Furthermore, across the diagnostic journey, there are many points of delay and also opportunities for hazards that can impact the results.
At TPN, our Diagnostic Workflow Re-engineering has reduced turnaround times by 90%.
TPN's Ground-breaking Diagnostic Workflow System
Spes360 is Africa’s first diagnostic digital workflow system, tested and proven in Kenya.

FHIR-ready and AI-enabled for future integration.
Layered Innovation Stack
TPN is a solution structured for scale:
Our layered infrastructure integrates hospitals, labs, payments, and reporting systems — ready to scale globally, with AI and automation enhancing the platform every day.
Physical Layer
Hospitals, Laboratories, Pathologists and Logistics
The Physical Layer connects real-world diagnostic assets — hospitals, collection centres, laboratories, pathologists and couriers — into one predictable supply chain.
Each node is quality-assured through TPN protocols, with integrated cold-chain logistics and courier tracking that eliminate delays and sample losses.
Application Layer
Spes360: The Coordination Engine
At the core sits Spes360, our diagnostic digital platform that orchestrates diagnostic workflows end-to-end.
It registers samples, tracks their journey, assigns pathologists, and returns verified reports to clinicians and patients.
The platform is modular, cloud-based, and designed for both private and government deployments.
Data Layer
Secure Storage, Reporting and Analytics
Every transaction on the network generates structured, compliant data that feeds a single source of diagnostic truth.
The Data Layer powers dashboards, audit trails, and analytics for hospitals, health authorities, and partners — enabling research, forecasting, and AI development.
All data are encrypted in transit and at rest, governed by strict access control and ISO-aligned standards.
Legal Layer
Governance, Compliance and Trust
Every partnership and data flow within TPN operates under a clear governance and compliance framework.
Our Legal Layer upholds patient trust through transparent agreements, ethical standards, and regulatory alignment with the Kenya Data Protection Act, GDPR, and international best practices.
The Medical Governance Council (TMGC) provides professional accountability and peer-led oversight — ensuring that every diagnostic decision meets the highest standards of integrity and quality.
Integration Layer
Connecting Systems, Enabling Intelligence
This layer allows interoperability across healthcare ecosystems.
FHIR-ready APIs connect hospital information systems, payment gateways, radiology, and emerging AI modules such as a patient navigator and decision support.
The Integration Layer ensures TPN can scale seamlessly across borders and technologies — a foundation for Africa’s diagnostic future.
The TPN Diagnostic Grid
TPN operates as a diagnostic grid, powered by our proprietary software Spes360, a cloud-based coordination platform alongside systems and structures for governance and standardisation.
Together, our products and services make diagnostics faster, more reliable, and scalable across borders.
